Step 1 - Find a Hot Market!
I hope you downloaded the special report: 7 Steps to Making Money Online...FAST! And by now I hope you've had a chance to read the report.
When Mark Hendricks outlined this 7-step process, it blew me away in it's simplicity. Over the next few days, I'll help you examine each step to making money online fast a little more closely.
Step 1: Find people who want to buy something...
The key here is to focus on the buyers, not the thing they want to buy. Need an example? Okay...
What's hot right now?
The iPod has taken the world by storm. But is there a market for peripherals, tools, informational kits, etc. To find out, we'll do a couple of things:
1) Find a Group of Buyers...
Do a quick Google search for "Forums + iPod". Not surprisingly, we come up with 72,000,000 results. On the first page, I noticed "iPod Forums at iLounge | The World's Largest iPod Forums - Powered ...".
The forum list quickly displays a huge market with multiple niches. Here's some examples:
- iTunes (Mac + PC) -- has 14,481 threads with 53,876 posts. The last post was "How to restore my playlists..." That even sounds like the title of a special report.
- Cases -- has 8,246 threads and 56,149 posts.
- Mac iPod Discussion & Problems -- is one of the smaller discussion groups in this forum with 1,817 threads with 7,240 posts. But this seems to be a gold mine of problems to be solved. For example, the last post title is "Help: How can I put my music..."
And finally, before leaving the forum, go to the bottom to see how many people are on the board at the moment. This one is pretty astounding:
"There are 18 members and 273 guests reading the forum."
That's a lot of folks, but the capper is that this forum has 104,423 registered (!) members.
And remember, this is just one of the many forums we found in a Google search.
So, the niche opportunities seem to be huge. But let's get specific...
2) Mine for Gold Using a Keyword Search Tool...
I use a keyword tool I've installed on my server to do a quick and dirty drill down into keyword search results.
You can get a copy of it here for $5 and watch a video about using it. I input the following three terms (from the forum search above) in the keyword tool.
The results were very interesting. Download the 7-page pdf file here with all the results from the $5 tool.
- iTunes -- For the iTunes keyword, there are more than 25 phrases with at least 50 searches per hour and more than 100 search terms returned.
- Case iPod -- The top three keyword phrases have between 69,000 and 362,000 searches per year.
- iPod Problem -- Twenty keyword phrases were returned, but only one seemed to have the numbers to be interesting. This will require deeper research.
So, we've found a market worth mining further just by noticing what people are talking about, discovering their online hangouts, and investigating the major areas of interests in those hangouts.
This is a great start. But from here, we'd do a couple of more things...
- Dig into the forums more deeply and look for common problems that users are talking about.
- Investigate more keyword phrases to isolate the hot problems and possible solutions.
Once that's done, we'll move to Step 2 in the 7-Step process -- Finding something to sell the market we've identified.

If I were a grave-digger or even a hangman, there are some people I could
work for with a great deal of enjoyment.
